Conversion rate is the single clearest signal on whether your traffic matches your store. A 3 percent CR with $50 clicks scales. A 1 percent CR with $30 clicks does not, no matter how cheap the traffic gets. Before you ever raise ad budget, run this number and compare to your category benchmark.

Two traps to avoid. First, comparing blended CR across channels mixes branded search (high CR) with cold paid (low CR) and hides the real number. Segment by channel. Second, mobile and desktop CR are different planets. Mobile usually converts at 40 to 60 percent of desktop. If your mix shifts toward mobile (and it always does over time), your blended CR will drop even if nothing else changed.
